{"id":689,"date":"2022-04-21T17:15:06","date_gmt":"2022-04-21T17:15:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.terc.edu\/climateandequity\/?page_id=689"},"modified":"2025-12-12T15:01:38","modified_gmt":"2025-12-12T15:01:38","slug":"applications","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.terc.edu\/climateandequity\/applications\/","title":{"rendered":"Apply"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-9d6595d7 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:66.66%\">\n<p>TERC, in partnership with the MacArthur Foundation, will welcome 18 Climate and Equity Fellows\u2014high school educators addressing issues of climate and equity in their classrooms\u2014to&nbsp;participate&nbsp;in the 2026 Climate and Equity Institute.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Institute will take place Sunday, July 26 \u2013 Saturday, August 1, 2026, at the Schoodic Institute campus in Maine. This is an all-expenses-paid program, including travel, and each Fellow will receive a $1,000 stipend.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Note:<\/strong>&nbsp;Accepted Fellows are also expected to attend&nbsp;3, hour-long virtual meetings between March and June 2026&nbsp;in preparation for the Institute. These meetings will be held via Zoom, with dates determined based on participant availability.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>We are currently accepting applications for the Summer 2026 Climate and reflect on\u00a0how best to\u00a0engage students in\u00a0learning about\u00a0climate change and related issues of inequity on an intersectional basis.\u00a0Guest speakers will give short introductions\u00a0to anchor exploration and discussion of\u00a0topics, including:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Teaching in urban, suburban,\u00a0and\u00a0rural communities\u00a0(how urban, suburban, and rural communities are connected socially and ecologically).<\/li>\n<li>The \u201cbiocomplexity\u201d view that all humans are factors in ecological and social systems.<\/li>\n<li>Dealing with emotion related to teaching and learning about climate change and equity.<\/li>\n<li>Indigenous ways of knowing.<\/li>\n<li>Youth voice and action as an antidote to dealing with climate anxiety.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Each day, Fellows will\u00a0also\u00a0work in small groups\u00a0to explore\u00a0a\u00a0problem\u00a0of practice of their choice, including:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Using school grounds productively.<\/li>\n<li>Student networking across schools.<\/li>\n<li>Designing a student action project.<\/li>\n<li>Implementing more equity-focused instruction related to climate change.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t      <\/div>\n\t\t\t\t    <\/div><div class=\"card\"><div class=\"card-header\" id=\"headingfaq-999\">\n\t\t\t\t teachers across urban, suburban, and rural communities who:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Have\u00a0a\u00a0passion\u00a0for\u00a0and some experience in\u00a0engaging high school students in learning about climate change and its inequitable impacts.<\/li>\n<li>Teach in a range of school settings\u00a0(public, private, charter, etc.)\u00a0in rural,\u00a0urban,\u00a0or suburban locations.<\/li>\n<li>Demonstrate a commitment to teaching, professional reflection, and growth within a collaborative learning community.<\/li>\n<li>Value diverse perspectives, contribute to a shared sense of community, and are interested in initiating change beyond their classrooms.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t      <\/div>\n\t\t\t\t    <\/div><div class=\"card\"><div class=\"card-header\" id=\"headingfaq-82\">\n\t\t\t\t        <h5 class=\"mb-0\">\n\t\t\t\t          <button class=\"btn btn-link\" type=\"button\" data-toggle=\"collapse\" data-target=\"#collapsefaq-82\" aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"collapsefaq-82\">\n\t\t\t\t            Fellowship Experience Beyond the Institute \n\t\t\t\t          <\/button>\n\t\t\t\t        <\/h5>\n\t\t\t\t 2026 Fellows will join educators from the 2022\u20132025 cohorts for ongoing virtual gatherings held approximately every 6\u20138 weeks. These meetings allow Fellows to continue discussing climate and equity in the classroom, share emerging work, build community, and occasionally hear from invited speakers.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t      <\/div>\n\t\t\t\t    <\/div><div class=\"card\"><div class=\"card-header\" id=\"headingfaq-98\">\n\t\t\t\t        <h5 class=\"mb-0\">\n\t\t\t\t          <button class=\"btn btn-link\" type=\"button\" data-toggle=\"collapse\" data-target=\"#collapsefaq-98\" aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"collapsefaq-98\">\n\t\t\t\t            About the Institute Location \n\t\t\t\t          <\/button>\n\t\t\t\t        <\/h5>\n\t\t\t\t      <\/div>\n\t\t\t\t      <div id=\"collapsefaq-98\" class=\"collapse\" aria-labelledby=\"headingfaq-98\" data-parent=\"#accordion-80\">\n\t\t\t\t        <div class=\"card-body\"><p>The Institute is held at Schoodic Institute, located in a stunning and remote section of Acadia National Park. Because access to amenities is limited, Fellows should plan to remain on campus for most of the week. There will be a scheduled trip to Bar Harbor mid-week.<\/p>\n<p>Participants will have opportunities each day to enjoy the natural surroundings, and at least one session will take place outdoors daily.<\/p>\n<p>Housing includes a private bedroom with shared bathroom and kitchen facilities.
